PEACE AMONGST THE STORM: I feel very fortunate to come across images that do more than just impress visually but kind of touch you. I seem to be finding less and less of those kind nowadays. Perhaps I just don’t have the energy to look LOL. I like the contrast here between the World War II era US marine in full uniform and the young Japanese child dressed in their everyday attire. Even more touching is the fact that the communication is occurring despite the conflict between the two countries at the time (not that anyone could be hostile towards a small child, especially as sweet as this). The exchange of some small object or merely a handshake exemplifies the power of peace. I sound a bit like a hippy but that’s the power of this particular photo. It makes you realise that despite conflicts humans can put themselves on the same, simple level and when they do the results can be positive.
