KING OF ROCK: When I initially came across this image, I thought that it was a photograph. It wasn’t until I looked closer that I realised my fallacy. It was actually a very detailed, life like painting by Kim Thompson of a snow leopard. I believe that I posted an actual photograph of the animal a while back, so it might be interesting to compare the real with the imitated, so to speak. Kim Thompson’s painting captures a snow leopard perched quite comfortably atop a mountain rock, looking intensely out towards the viewer, tail flicked proudly to its side. The moody, grey clouds above and the snow covered mountain side in the background add a sombre tone to the acrylic painting. A dramatized version of reality that is just as good.
